A series of 6 life-sized bird sculptures made by repurposing 1200 kgs of metal waste, these sculptures seek to inspire viewers to reflect on the transformation of discarded materials into something beautiful and meaningful, drawing parallels between the potential for rebirth in art and the innate freedom found in nature. The installations were strategically placed at IIJS (India International Jewellery Show organised by GJEPC) shows in January & August 2023 in open areas where viewers could freely interact with and walk around the sculptures. Visitors were encouraged to explore the details of the birds, touch the materials, and reflect on the symbolism of transformation and freedom. For GJEPC’s commitment to the environment under their “One Earth” initiative, they commissioned this series of sculptures which travelled all over India for all their jewellery shows in 2023.
These 6 feet tall sculptures weighing 200 kg each, of a Pigeon, Sparrow, Cuckoo and Koyal are a sustainable interpretation of peace loving birds symbolised as messengers of hope, renewal and universal truth.
Our media of choice is repurposed metal from bicycle chains, gear plates, metal alloys, gears, nuts, bolts, wires and screws, etc. All the wildly diverse metal pieces are welded onto steel frames whereby each piece is positioned proportionately to relate it to its real-life counterpart of a body of a pigeon.
